Why is Spain so popular for expatriates?

A lot of people who are moving to Spain from abroad are 100% set on moving here.

However, sometimes people are still comparing Spain to other Mediterranean countries and they want to understand what makes it so special to live here.

So I’m pushing tax and financials to one side for a moment and focusing on life qualities which are often overlooked.

Here are my top 10 reasons for living in Spain as an expatriate (in no particular order!):

1. Comfortable & moderate climate -

I remember having to scrape ice off my car most mornings when I lived in England. In Spain it’s sunny for around 320 days a year and each region offers such diverse landscapes.

2. Spanish culture -

Coming from Australia, this is something that I found particularly fascinating. Each region and even town is really distinct since the country is founded on so many different cultures.

I really love the Moorish architecture from when the Moors were in Spain for around 800 years.

3. Access to fantastic health care -

Spain is known to have one of the best public health systems in the world. Plus the private system is very affordable compared to many developed countries. It’s a very secure feeling living here with this infrastructure.

4. Quality of life is valued more than work -

Spanish life isn’t about rushing and stress. It’s about slowing down and making the most out of life.

5. Immigration options -

There are several visa options now to enter Spain whether you’re working or retired.

6. Expatriate community -

Living away from family and friends becomes easier with other like-minded foreigners around you. There’s no shortage of expatriates here.

7. Public transport -

Anyone who has caught a high speed train in Spain can probably agree with this. Most cities and large towns are really well connected and trains are affordable.

8. Value of property -

There are numerous options plus I think the value of properties is great compared to other countries.

9. Fiestas and community -

I always feel sorry for dogs in Spain since there are a lot of fireworks and noise! There are local, regional and national fiestas all the time where the whole community gets together and celebrates.

10. Food -

Tapas! I can’t forget to mention world-class tapas which differs in every region.

I help people move to Spain from abroad in a simple and strategic approach. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and put a meeting in my diary from the link below.
